Teen Jazz singer Maya Belardo is a rising star. We were lucky enough to catch up to her while at a photo shoot in Philadelphia. We wondered how someone so young became interested in jazz and what motivates her to go against the grain in her effort to revive the art form to greatness.
Maya Belardo, The 'Princess of Jazz'
Maya Belardo has been singing since she was two years old. So, it was no surprise that her first answer to the question, “Who are you?” was, “A girl who loves music.” Maya also considers herself to be a laid back person who likes to go with the flow. Although everyone around her views her as a protégé and a young role model, Maya considers herself to be a “regular teenager” who likes to hang out with her friends and read, especially during the summer.
Wilmington Counts Down To Annual Jazz Festival
Next month marks the 60th anniversary of the death of jazz musician and well known trumpeter Clifford Brown. The Wilmington native died in a tragic car accident at the age of 25. His music however lives on today at the DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz Festival (June 21-June 25), a yearly event that features national and local artists. One local artist scheduled to take the stage at Rodney Square is Maya Belardo. "It's an honor, I've been going to the festival since I was a little girl, its unreal, and I'm real excited," Belardo said
Artist Showcase Ft. Maya Belardo At Christina Cultural Arts Center
This Saturday, Christina Cultural Arts Center in downtown Wilmington opens their doors for a showcase featuring 17 year old jazz songbird, Maya Belardo. Maya, who first fell in love with the art form at the age of 10, is ecstatic for her first headliner.
